Thayer has been studying music for nearly 20 years, beginning with a fascination in metal and rock as a child and changing into a love of songwriting and advanced harmony in more recent years. He earned his degree in contemporary guitar, music production, and music business from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, graduating cum laude on two full presidential scholarships. Thayer has performed on stages across the United States, including opening for artists like Joan Jett and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and has worked on projects with networks such as VH1 and MTV. He was also inducted into the Ernie Ball Brotherhood of the Guitar as a teenager, receiving a sponsorship in recognition of his musicianship.
Thayer’s teaching centers on cultivating a genuine love and fascination for music, supported by the development of a strong musical ear. He believes ear training is essential for musicians at every level and emphasizes helping students truly understand and internalize the music they learn, rather than simply rehearsing it. His goal is for students to build both skill and appreciation, giving them a lifelong connection to music that continues to grow over time.
A musical jack of all trades with a specialty in rock and contemporary styles, Thayer has been performing since the age of seven. He brings a wide range of experience and personality into his work, along with a memorable story from his childhood when Ozzy Osbourne signed his cast after he broke his leg in third grade.
