Scott Moon

Music Teacher

Piano, Guitar, Bass, & Drums

Scott Moon began his musical journey at the age of five with piano lessons, which grew into more than 15 years of formal instruction and over 25 years of playing experience. In college, he was an active member of the jazz band, the invitational jazz combo, and the musician’s club, where he further explored his love of collaboration and creativity. His curiosity for new instruments has led him to add guitar and bass to his repertoire for the past decade, as well as drums, harmonica, ocarina, and most recently, the accordion.

As a teacher, Scott’s goal is to help his students see themselves as musicians and discover the joy of making music. His lessons balance essential skills like reading, technique, and building repertoire with improvisation and playing by ear, so that students can feel ownership of their music. By incorporating the styles and songs his students already enjoy, Scott creates an environment that is engaging, encouraging, and fun. He believes that mistakes are part of the learning process and that lessons should be a safe space for exploration and creativity.

Outside of teaching, Scott enjoys playing board games, video games, sports, and of course, music. He first fell in love with music when he discovered improvisation and self-expression, and that same love of creativity has most recently led him to improv theater.
