Lovena Akins is a dedicated vocalist and music educator who loves choral music, musical theatre, and the unforgettable hits of the 90s and early 2000s. A lifelong musician, they first joined chorus in elementary school and never looked back. Lovena studied classical voice as part of their degree program and earned their Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Choral Concentration from Kennesaw State University in Fall 2024. In addition to classical training, they enjoy performing in musical theatre and exploring more contemporary vocal styles.
As a teacher, Lovena creates a welcoming, supportive space where students feel safe to be vulnerable and learn through exploration and mistakes. They prioritize building strong, appropriate relationships with their students to help them grow in both skill and confidence. Lessons with Lovena are student-centered and engaging, shaped around each learner’s interests, strengths, and growth areas. Their goal is to inspire students to challenge themselves while staying connected to the joy of music.
Lovena is the former President and Founder of the Black Musicians Coalition at Kennesaw State University and is affiliated with professional music organizations such as NAfME and GMEA. Outside of teaching, they enjoy reading, attending concerts, and spending time with their two cats. They bring passion, warmth, and a deep appreciation for vocal music to every lesson.
