Josh Refec

Music Teacher

Piano & Guitar

Josh Refec is a dedicated musician and educator pursuing his degree in Piano Pedagogy at Georgia State University. He has been playing piano since the age of five and quickly fell in love with music, later adding guitar at eleven and developing a strong foundation in music theory. Throughout middle and high school, he also played trumpet and served as a marching band section leader for three years. Josh went on to study at Berklee College of Music, where he trained under notable musicians and deepened his expertise, earning two merit-based scholarships. He now serves as a graduate assistant at Georgia State University, coordinating music theory classes with a full tuition waiver, and is also CRLA Tutor Certified.

In his teaching, Josh prioritizes getting to know each student individually so he can tailor lessons to their goals and interests. He believes in giving students the knowledge and tools they need to practice effectively while leaving room for exploration and independent learning. His lessons are structured to encourage curiosity, resilience, and growth, creating a safe environment where students can take risks, learn from mistakes, and celebrate successes.

Outside of teaching, Josh enjoys listening to a wide variety of music, with a special love for hip hop from the 2000s to today. He also loves spending time outdoors, often exploring parks through walks and runs. When relaxing at home, he enjoys video games, especially Mario and Zelda titles on the Nintendo Switch, with his current favorite being Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
