Joanne Dunbar began playing piano by ear at the age of 5 and has since developed her skills through years of lessons, culminating in performances at weddings, events, and church services. She initially pursued music education at Toccoa Falls College and Kennesaw State University, participating in a jazz band, wind ensemble, and serving as an accompanist for various musicians and choirs.
Despite switching her major to Middle School Education, Joanne graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2014 with a BS in Middle Grades Education and continued to blend her love for teaching with her musical talents. She has nearly a decade of experience as a classroom teacher while also teaching piano and voice lessons and remaining actively involved in musical performances. In 2020, Joanne furthered her education with a Master's degree in Reading Education and now works as a literacy tutor alongside her music teaching.
At the core, Joanne sees herself as a teacher first—a role deeply influenced by her own piano teachers and her mother, who ensured her musical progression. She is driven by a desire to impact her students in the same transformative way, using music as a vibrant medium for expression, discovery, and creativity. Joanne's teaching philosophy is centered on fostering a love of music and a keen desire to improve and explore new musical territories. By igniting a passion for learning and growth in her students, Joanne delights in witnessing their development into accomplished musicians.
