Emily began playing piano at the age of four with a Suzuki instructor and continued through years of competitive performance before studying music in college. During college, she played keys and sang in a band, further expanding her musical expression. A lifelong performer, Emily has spent much of her life onstage as a pianist and musical theater artist. She began teaching piano part-time in 2015 and found a passion for working with beginner and early intermediate students.
Emily’s teaching philosophy centers on joy, creativity, and connection. She strives to help her students build a strong foundation while developing an emotional relationship with music. Her goal is to help each student see music as both a creative outlet and a safe space. In lessons, Emily challenges students to do their best while encouraging them to take initiative and share what excites them. She tailors each lesson to her students’ passions but isn’t afraid to guide them outside of their comfort zones to grow.
Outside of teaching and playing piano, Emily enjoys singing, songwriting, and spending time with her two dogs, Mushu the corgi and Koda the pitbull. She brings warmth and energy into every lesson and is dedicated to creating a supportive, inspiring environment where students can explore and express themselves through music.
