His formal education includes a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Florida State University, a Master’s of Music from Emory University, and doctoral work at Indiana University. Over the past 17 years, he has taught students of all ages and levels in voice, piano, guitar, and drums as a high school music teacher. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), and the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS).
Charley believes that music is a powerful language that everyone can learn to use to communicate both with themselves and others. His first priority in teaching is to nurture a genuine love for making and creating music that students can carry throughout their lives. He emphasizes the importance of consistent practice, guiding students to pair passion with dedication, which he believes unlocks unlimited potential. Lessons with Charley are designed to be engaging, inspiring, and tailored to each student’s goals and interests.
Outside of teaching, Charley enjoys a wide variety of activities that fuel his creativity and joy. He is a fan of many musical styles, particularly jazz, rock, hip-hop, funk/soul, and classical. When he’s not making music, he loves cooking, traveling, reading, gardening, watching movies, and going on adventures with his family. His well-rounded interests and warm personality help him connect with students and create a supportive, welcoming learning environment.
