Carla has a lifelong passion for studying and creating music and words. Born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music (Theory and Composition) from UNC Chapel Hill in 2003. During her time at Chapel Hill, Carla played the Sousaphone in the UNC Marching Tar Heels/Basketball Bands, as well as contributed to UNC Jazz Bands and UNC Symphony Band on the trombone. She also served as a trombonist and guitarist for two productions with the renowned UNC Playmaker's Theater, a student-operated theater at UNC Chapel Hill.
While earning her degree in Music Theory and Composition from UNC Chapel Hill, she delved into various musical motifs and concepts, spanning from funk to blues, classical to rock, and ambient music.
After completing a graduate teaching certificate program at The University of Georgia, she began work as a Latin teacher at a school in Georgia. There, she applied the pedagogical approaches she'd acquired at UGA, fostering dynamic relationships with students and families. In her third year, Carla also took on the role of Guitar Instructor, preparing and presenting a beginning guitar ensemble for Winter Holiday and Spring Concert performances.
Carla continues to cultivate her music on Monday nights at Lola's Jam, located at Northside Tavern in West Midtown, Atlanta, where creativity flourishes. In addition to her love of music and teaching, she is an acclaimed Upper Learning Latin teacher at The Galloway School in Buckhead.
