Bryant Laursen

Music Teacher

A Word from Bryant:

“ I remember listening to Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue Album as a teenager and really feeling something. Through jazz I learned the importance of musical excellence and the importance of self-expression. Now, I am looking to spread that same inspiration”.

Bryant Laursen is an artist, jazz saxophonist, educator, producer, and artist from Dectaur, GA. After studying at Michigan State University, he moved to Atlanta to pursue a career in music while simultaneously finishing his Bachelor’s Degree at Georgia State University. With a background in jazz saxophone, Bryant was pushed to incorporate other instruments that he now loves to perform on and teach, such as flute, clarinet, and piano. When not writing, producing, or recording original music for various artists including himself, and his wife otherwise-known-as Ethel, you can find Bryant DJ’ing and and playing sax alongside his wife multiple nights throughout the week in Atlanta. They currently hold a residency at The Epicurean Autograph Collection in Midtown.

Bryant loves to teach students with an extremely varied approach.

“Some students play exclusively by ear. My wife does- she doesn’t read music, or do any form of music theory. However, she is one of the absolute best pianists in the world. This is NOT the way my brain works. My way into music was through reading sheet music and using music theory to explain how some artists do things quite naturally. It is important to be open minded to the beautiful way everyone’s individual brain and mind work; To create a tailor-made curriculum for each student based on what inspires them the most. If you’re having fun while you do it, you’ll be inspired to do it. When you’re inspired to do it, you’ll create a dedicated practice to it because you’re having fun! Helping to create long term musicians and artists is my aim, and that’s what I love to do!”
